SVCTE Field Ironworkers Pre-Apprenticeship Program Approved by the State
We’re pleased to share that the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) has formally approved SVCTE’s Field Ironworkers Pre-Apprenticeship program. This state recognition confirms that our Metals Technology program meets all requirements to prepare students for apprenticeship pathways in the ironworking industry.
As registered pre-apprentices, students will gain industry-aligned training and earn state-recognized pre-apprenticeship credit, strengthening their transition into full apprenticeship programs after high school. This program is directly linked to Iron Workers Local 377 apprenticeship programs in Benicia and San Jose. SVCTE will be able to register eligible students in the state system using the newly approved DAS forms and portal.
This is a meaningful step forward in expanding high-quality career pathways for students across our region.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)![]()
What does “state-approved pre-apprenticeship” mean?
It means the program has met all requirements set by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) and is officially recognized by the State of California. Students who complete the program receive state-recognized pre-apprenticeship credit.
How does this benefit students?
Students gain hands-on training aligned with industry standards, along with credit that strengthens their eligibility for Ironworker apprenticeship programs after graduation. In addition, the Linkage Agreement with the Ironworker’s Local 377 apprenticeship provides for support services during the pre-apprenticeship experience.
Will students be registered with the state?
Yes. Each student will be entered into the DAS system. This ensures they are officially recognized as pre-apprentices.
Does this approval change how students enroll in SVCTE?
No. Students continue to enroll through their home high school counselor. The approval affects state reporting, not the enrollment process.
Is the program connected to full apprenticeship opportunities?
Yes. Registered pre-apprenticeships are designed as a pathway into state-approved apprenticeship programs. Completion strengthens the application into apprenticeship and may accelerate their transition.
Will students receive a certificate?
Students who successfully complete the program will receive a state-recognized pre-apprenticeship certificate, along with any industry-specific training acknowledgments provided by the program.
What is required from SVCTE now that the program is approved?
SVCTE will submit registration to DAS to activate portal access, then register each participating student and maintain program records in alignment with state requirements.
