Patricia TapiaFire Science/First Responder Teacher |
Bio:Chief Tapia brings over 32 years of experience with the San José Fire Department, rising through the ranks from firefighter to Battalion Chief. She comes from a proud family of firefighters—her father, brother, and uncle all served in the department, and she made history as part of the first father-daughter firefighter duo in the U.S. In addition, she is also a certified Urban Search and Rescue Specialist and a Certified Hazardous Materials Specialist.
Recruited by SVCTE Fire Science program founder Phil Gonzalez, Tapia found purpose in guiding the next generation of students. Inspired by their passion, growth, and success, she continues to share her knowledge and experience to help students interested in careers in public safety.
Why do you teach Career and Technical Education?Preparing young students for a career beloved to me is very rewarding, especially being able to teach them the knowledge, skills, and culture of fire science. I have older students who work in ambulances, and it is rewarding to see them be successful. |
