Cybersecurity (UC "g")

Cybersecurity is a rapidly growing field spanning IT, computing, and engineering, impacting individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide. However, there is a severe shortage of professionals. As of 2024, the global cybersecurity workforce stands at 5.5 million, yet 4.8 million positions remain unfilled. In the U.S., about 500,000 cybersecurity jobs are open, despite efforts to expand the talent pipeline.

To meet demand, certifications, and alternative training paths are becoming key career accelerators. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the median annual salary for information security analysts is $120,360. This course introduces students to cybersecurity principles, emerging technologies, and protective measures.

Students will develop essential skills, including risk assessment, intrusion detection, proficiency in coding, and familiarity with Mac, Windows, Chrome, and Linux operating systems. Course topics include:

Why do you teach Career and Technical Education:

I love teaching CTE because it gives students a purpose for being in school. They see how subjects like math and science appy to real life, making their education more meaningful. It justfies their learning and as a result, I have a highly motivated group of students.
