Design, estimate, and construct buildings using industry standards with carpentry tools and equipment. Carpenters can find employment in both union and non-union organizations. An apprentice carpenter typically advances to the Journeyman level within four years. Salary increases are based on the time served and the skills mastered. Within four years of entering this trade, wages can exceed $39 per hour. Journeymen's wages in the union are $62 to $99 an hour. Carpenters who attain a high skill level are often people-oriented, develop strong business acumen, and may choose to become self-employed contractors. A four-year college degree in project management can also be obtained. This class focuses on academic understanding, technical skills, and employability practices. Why do you teach Career and Technical Education?

I am dedicated to teaching students practical skills that empower them to think creatively. I want them to recognize the tremendous value of Career and Technical Education (CTE). I take great pleasure in watching my students grow and learn, as I challenge them to think independently and become employable individuals. I enjoy introducing various concepts they may have yet to grasp in other settings fully and demonstrating how they apply to real-life situations. Those “lightbulb moments” are what motivate me to return to teaching, making the experience rich and rewarding.
