Silicon Valley Career Technical Education

Organizations & Leadership

There are several Career Technical Student Organizations active here at SVCTE. Students must have satisfactory academic and attendance records in their SVCTE course to be eligible for any CTSO competitions or events. Typically students must maintain a “B” grade in their class and at least 85% credited attendance (i.e. no more than 15% unexcused absences).

SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is a nationally affiliated club, a partnership of high school and college students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure that America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps prepare students for careers in technically skilled service occupations. SkillsUSA is a private entity that is separate and apart from MetroED. MetroED does not require any students in any of its Silicon Valley CTE classes to join SkillsUSA, nor does MetroED offer any kind of class credits or extra credit for students who may choose to participate in SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA offers its members the opportunity to compete in the SkillsUSA Championships. There are expenses incurred for students that voluntarily enter SkillsUSA competitions. Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)

HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of the Association for Career Technical Education. Our Silicon Valley CTE Chapter is open to all students in the Health Sciences courses. Learn more at www.hosa.org.

Student Ambassador Program

Each class selects both morning and afternoon students to represent the class as Student ambassador. Student ambassador members will promote Silicon Valley CTE to our partnering high schools through student leadership. All Silicon Valley CTE students are encouraged to develop and participate in extracurricular functions throughout the school year.
