Fashion Design & Textile Art (UC "f")

The Fashion Design & Textile Art Program offers UC (“f”) Fine Arts credits with hands-on learning focused on introducing students to the fashion industry career pathways. The classes explore different art mediums including technology, illustration, photography, cosmetology, sewing, and pattern making. Students have the opportunity to put their skills into practice and exhibit their clothing collections to a live audience during SVCTE Fashion Week. The goal of the program is to engage students in the fashion industry, gaining the necessary skills in moving forward to applying for entry-level retail positions, internships, and colleges in the United States and abroad. The class focuses on academic, technical skills, and employability practices. Students will develop personal and professional skills in the classroom that will transfer to the workplace:

  • Care for and select textiles
  • Alter and repair clothing
  • Apply art elements and principles in designing their work
  • Produce work demonstrating individual creativity and problem-solving ability
  • Use computer to enhance the Fashion Design and production skills needed for entry-level technicians
